With no small amount of trepidation, my wife Susan and I decided early this year that it was time to do a gut renovation of the kitchen in our Park Slope brownstone.  We used Houzz to solicit proposals, and interviewed two architects and three contractors, including Gallery Kitchen & Bath.  More than any of the others, Gallery impressed us with their knowledge, creative suggestions and enthusiasm for the project. In light of our busy work schedules, we were particularly attracted to GKB’s promise to manage the project entirely from design to demolition to construction, using their own employees and regular licensed mechanics to perform all of the work. We were left only with the responsibility to make design choices among an array of options GKB presented to us.  Once we decided to go with GKB, they negotiated a contract with us fairly and transparently, agreeing to a fixed cost and a payment schedule that has provided us meaningful control over the progress and completion of the work. Our choice of GKB was well-rewarded. From the beginning of the project, Gallery gave us unlimited time to design the kitchen.  They spent several hours with us discussing our needs and desires, proposing a menu of solutions, and taking measurements.  We eventually moved discussions to drawings that presented a variety of design possibilities, then converted our design selections to detailed plans specifying the exact location and size of the cabinetry, plumbing, electrical switches and outlets, and kitchen appliances. Our team then spent several more hours with us in their studio presenting options for counter and backsplash materials and colors, introducing us to hardware selections and discussing additional design refinements. Once the kitchen design was set, the work proceeded smoothly.  GKB’s workers showed up each scheduled morning and worked throughout the days under attentive supervision.  As one would expect with a brownstone circa 1875, there were a few unanticipated issues that arose during the work. Our project managers were available at all hours to discuss by phone or text and sort out the best solutions. On a regular basis, they discussed with us the work performed, outlined next steps and allayed our anxieties. They were flexible, invariably agreeing to requested adjustments. Throughout the project, Susan and I continued to live in the house, which was made possible by the workers’ consistent neatness and care.  The work has been completed and we could not be more delighted with the quality work and beautiful look of our new kitchen, pantry and closets. We recommend GKB without hesitation.
