Our next project is a Manhattan condo renovation. This space, in the heart of NoMad, underwent a full home renovation, with particular focus placed on the kitchen and bathroom. Condos are typically newer buildings, so this project didn’t require many technical upgrades. On the other hand, condo-grade finishes tend to be on the bland side. Our goal was to infuse the space with some personality, swapping out the developer-grade finishes with materials and fixtures closer to our clients’ hearts.
Condo-grade finishes can be nice, but are often a bit too cookie-cutter for clients who have a keen sense of their own aesthetic. In this Manhattan condo renovation, the original bathroom was technically decent but too impersonal for our clients. We ditched the tub for a new shower with a custom-made glass door, instantly giving the space contemporary appeal.
In that same contemporary vein, striking Zen Gray tiles in a herringbone pattern animate the new shower, with Porcelanosa Carrara Blanco for the walls, quartz countertops, and a custom-made Miralis vanity in Cashmere Gray complete the look. One of the most common upgrades in condos is with the stone work, which was the case here as well. In addition to the walls and countertops, we updated the floor with Porcelanosa Boston Stone tiles in a complementary dark gray tone and larger size to minimize grout needs.
In the remodeled kitchen for this Manhattan condo renovation we introduced a transitional element to the otherwise contemporary style with two-tone cabinets. Miralis Tribeca Walnut for the base cabinets with Miralis Cologne White Lace for the uppers is both charming and cohesive, bringing a welcome transitional edge to the otherwise modern space. The fused-like edges for the upper cabinets are sleek, chic, and easy to maintain, featuring anti-fingerprint and enhanced anti-bacterial properties. Another maintenance upgrade came with the porcelain countertops and backsplash, which feature a pattern that resembles Carrara marble for that classic look without the upkeep that true marble requires.
Columns are usually associated more with lofts, but you can find structural columns in any type of New York space. In the case of this condo, we were faced with one in the kitchen. We integrated the column into the space by building it out with an in-set bookshelf. Not only is the column now virtually hidden, but it also serves a functional purpose as a great place to keep cookbooks or simply as extra kitchen storage.
